5th Grade Parent
My daughter was able to go from not knowing most of her letter sounds to be being able to read independently. She has always been having difficulty with her reading and pronouncing and as a result, she has always been apprehensive of reading. But now she loves to read and feels excited going to Mrs. Roark's personalized sessions.
7th Grade Parent
My son's dyslexia always makes his spelling and reading difficult. After a year studying with Mrs. Roark, he has improved a lot. His spelling is still a work in progress, but Mrs. Roark uses very effective techniques to help my son and now he is getting a lot better.
3rd Grade Parent
Mrs. Roark has helped my son to have more confidence in his reading and writing. Her kindness, patience, and advocacy have helped him to increase his confidence and regain his love for learning. Her use of pictures notes and many teaching tools help my son to visualize the texts and understand them in more detail.
6th Grade Parent
My son was diagnosed with dyslexia at a young age and has been in other literacy programs. However, his previous district said that they could no longer use those programs because they were only appropriate through 3rd grade and it was too late for him to learn those skills. My son had completely checked out and no longer wanted to go to school. But after taking classes from Mrs. Roark, my son gradually started to want to go to school again. In one short month, he has begun to improve in his reading and writing.
2nd Grade Parent
My son has difficulty pronouncing words which prevents him from making gains in his reading and spelling skills. Mrs. Roark was able to both increase his attention to tasks and bring a deeper understanding to his reading skills, and now he is reading at grade level and is excited to learn more every day.
8th Grade Student
Mrs. Roark had been my teacher in 7th grade, but I ended up going to another program, thinking that I could continue to get the same attention and instruction with other teachers. However, I found those teachers did not have same the expertise and personalized instruction to help me with my reading, so I asked my parents if they could let me go back to Mrs. Roark so that I would be ready for high school next year. Mrs. Roark's instruction is such a game changer that I was even able to meet standard on the SBAC last year in ELA.
